In
the early 70's, Sacramento was riding high with live traditional
jazz performances from places like Shakey's Pizza Parlor.
Soon thereafter, the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society became
a nonprofit organization. Not to be caught short, the South
Bay followed suit with help from Sacramento . The South Bay
Traditional Jazz Society (SBTJS) was formed in 1972 as a nonprofit
organization to perpetuate Dixieland jazz, swing, and ragtime.
Although the young Society had to struggle to make ends meet
and to grow, it became one of the largest traditional jazz
societies in the nation.
The
South Bay Traditional Jazz Society (SBTJS) is dedicated to
the performance, promotion, and preservation of Vintage jazz.
A showcase of jazz music is presented on the 4th Sunday of
each month. The Society is a nonprofit organization based
in Silicon Valley, part of the beautiful San Francisco Bay
Area in California . To help perpetuate this classic treasure,
the Society occasionally provides programs to educate and
inspire young and older alike. Related musical genres and
styles of music under the umbrella of traditional jazz (aka
Dixieland music) that originated in New Orleans , include
ragtime, blues, and spirituals. There are many ways to participate!
Come to listen to this great music in a variety of venues.
If you're a dancer, get ready to swing onto the dance floor.
Musicians can join in our jam sets and parades. Even without
an instrument, you can strut along with or without a parasol!
